Corbett gift recognizes CCM dean

BY JANELLE GELFAND
The Cincinnati Enquirer

A new gift of approximately $2 million from arts patron Patricia A. Corbett will ensure that the legacy of Dean Robert J. Werner endures at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Mrs. Corbett has chosen to name a new recital hall in CCM's new campus village the Robert J. Werner Recital Hall to honor the dean, who will retire in June.

Her personal gift, which was a surprise to Mr. Werner, was announced Wednesday.

The $93.2 million renovation and construction project is one of the significant achievements of Mr. Werner's tenure.

“What Dean Werner has done, of making the school what it is today, has been a unique accomplishment,” said Mrs. Corbett, who chairs the Corbett Foundation. “(CCM is) probably the best music school in the nation. I don't believe anybody can touch us.”

The Corbett Foundation was founded in 1955 by Mrs. Corbett and her husband, the late J. Ralph Corbett, with the fortune they earned with their company, NuTone. Since then more than $55 million has been donated.
