Historical society to visit Gilded Age

The Cincinnati Enquirer

HAMILTON — Dances and desserts will be featured at 7 p.m. Friday as the Butler County Historical Society re-creates an evening from the Gilded Age.

Costumed dancers from Cincinnati's Forget-Me-Not dance ensemble will perform dances that were popular during the second half of the 19th century, including the Schottische, galop, polka and waltz.

For spectators there will be beverages and elaborate desserts.

The ballroom exhibition and reception will be held in Richie Auditorium adjacent to Benninghofen House, the historical society's museum at 327 N. Second St.

The house itself is an ornate relic of the Gilded Age, constructed by industrialist John Benninghofen in 1861.

There is a limited number of tickets left for the event, according to museum Executive Director Marjorie Brown. Call 896-9930 for reservations.
