Package of pot arrives with arrest on delivery

BY JANICE MORSE
The Cincinnati Enquirer

HAMILTON — Acting on a tip from police in Tempe, Ariz., police here Wednesday intercepted a package containing 36 pounds of marijuana addressed to a 37-year-old Hamilton man.

Hamilton police arrested Mietek Niemczynski, 41, and Glenn Ballard, 37, at an apartment in the 300 block of Main Street. Charges were pending.

The arrests occurred after a vice detective, dressed as a deliveryman, took the marijuana-laden package to the address. Mr. Niemczynski accepted it, posing as Mr. Ballard, to whom the package was addressed, police said.

Police learned about the package Tuesday when Tempe police called to say the package had been left at a delivery service drop box. Police in Arizona, however, did not know who sent the package, Hamilton police Sgt. Tom Kilgour said. Efforts to identify the sender continued, he said.

The street value of the marijuana was estimated at $60,000.
