CINCINNATI FOOTBALL PICKS
By Dave Schutte
WHEN: 7:30 p.m. today.
WHERE: Tom Ballaban Stadium, St. Xavier High School, 600 N. Bend Road, Finneytown.
WHAT TO WATCH: Despite two losses, Moeller remains one of the best teams in Cincinnati.
Moeller not only has an outstanding defense but also a diversified offense triggered by tailback Marcus Blanks and quarterback Brian Reisert.
The Bombers have only been tested by Indianapolis Cathedral. The combined records of St. Xavier's opponents is 6-15, compared to Moeller's at 21-5.
The key will be St. Xavier's defense. If the Bombers hold the Crusaders to 14 points or less, they may win in what should be a low-scoring game.
PICK: Moeller
Fairfield (4-1) vs. Lakota East (4-1)
WHEN: 7:30 p.m. today.
WHERE: Lakota East High School, 6840 Lakota Lane, Liberty Township.
WHAT TO WATCH: This This matches the co-leaders of the Greater Miami Conference.
Fairfield is coming off an impressive 38-7 victory over previously undefeated Colerain. Tailback Earl Haynes (917 yards on 152 carries) is the backbone of Farifield's offense. Quarterback Todd Bridge (30-of-59, 357 yards) must complete passes early to open up running room for Haynes against a tough East defense.
Lakota East's offense is capable of putting together 12-to-15 play drives with tailback Mike Rabin (296 yards rushing) and quarterback Mike Koehler (19-of-36 for 195 yards) the key players.
PICK: Fairfield.
Madeira (5-0) vs. Wyoming (5-0).
WHEN: 7:30 p.m. today
WHERE: Wyoming High School, 106 Pendery Ave., Wyoming.
WHAT TO WATCH: The Cinderella team in the Cincinnati Hills League, Madeira seeks to upset the two-time defending CHL champion Cowboys.
Tim Dooley leads the Madeira offense. A 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior quarterback, Dooley is a threat both running and passing.
Wyoming counters with quarterback Kyle Lewis, receiver Adam Monday and a core of solid running backs led by Scott Cryder and David DuPee. Defensively, the teams appear even but Wyoming is faster on offense.
Pick: Wyoming
Lebanon (4-1) vs. Loveland (3-2)
WHEN: 7:30 p.m. today.
WHERE: Loveland Stadium, 1 Tiger Trail, Loveland.
WHAT TO WATCH: If Lebanon hopes to repeat as co-champion with Kings in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference, the Warriors must defeat Loveland, which is 2-0 in league play.
Tailback Nick Singleton has taken over as Lebanon's offensive leader, scoring 78 points and rushing for 963 yards on 89 carries.
PICK: Lebanon.
Lakota West (3-2) vs. Colerain (4-1)
