Officer indicted on burglary charges

The Cincinnati Enquirer

A Cincinnati police sergeant was indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury Friday, accused of breaking into a Green Township home.

Sgt. Dawn Sherman, 35, who has been suspended from her job without pay, was charged with extortion and two counts of burglary, all felonies. She was also indicted on a count of misdemeanor stalk ing, Cincinnati police said.

The 10-year police veteran is accused of breaking into the home of a Green Township woman on Aug. 15. An attorney for Sgt. Sherman has said Sgt. Sherman knew the woman.

Sgt. Sherman is now assigned to the telephone crime reporting unit. A police administrative investigation is under way. Her future with the department depends on a hear ing before the city safety director.

In an affidavit, the Green Township woman said she arrived home to find Sgt. Sherman sitting in her living room in the dark, watching TV.

After about 20 minutes, Sgt. Sherman agreed to go.

The woman later told police several items were missing from her home.
