GREATER CINCINNATI 100
10 companies come close to mark, but lag in revenue pace
BY JOHN ECKBERG
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Ten companies were slightly off the revenue pace to be in the Cincinnati 100 roster compiled by Arthur Andersen.
Scott Davis, chief financial officer for Newman Properties Endicott Johnson, a shoe retailer based downtown, was skeptical that his company would crack the list next year.
It is a difficult retail environment for shoe stores, he said. There has been a real consolidation in the industry.
Companies that almost made the list are:
Loth + Mbi Inc., a company that distributes Steelcase office furniture products and provides service and solutions for workplace problems. The firm employs 125 at its Sharonville headquarters.
Our business has peaks and valleys, said J.B. Buse, president and chief executive officer of the firm.
Newman Properties Endicott Johnson is based downtown and employs 200 in stores in eastern seaboard states and Illinois.
›Ford Development Corp., a Sharonville company that contracts for heavy highway, construction site and utility equipment, and employs 220.
Ace Doran Hauling and Rigging Co., a firm based in Northside that provides specialized treatment of steel, aluminum and machinery items as well as warehouse services. The company employs 88.
Frank J. Catanzaro Sons & Daughters Inc., a warehouse food service and distribution company in Over-the-Rhine that employs 82.
Hilltop Basic Resources Inc., an aggregate mining and distribution company that employs 200 and provides ready-mix concrete with headquarters downtown.
Landrum & Brown Inc., an aviation consulting company that employs 132 and maintains headquarters in Blue Ash.
CDC Distributors Inc., a wholesale distributor of flooring products to retail stores and commercial flooring contractors that employs 100 in Woodlawn.
›Verst Group Logistics, a Walton company that employs 600 and provides business logistics services.
