The United Way & Community Chest campaign is about halfway to its $58.1 million goal.
The amount pledged so far is $26.5 million. The drive ends Oct. 28.
Completed workplace campaigns are averaging a 16 percent increase compared with a year ago, said campaign chairman George Schaefer.
The campaign has also received a boost from the number of $10,000 givers. Known as the Alexis de Tocqueville Society, $10,000 givers are up from last year. So far, 47 additional people have pledged that amount. The United Way has set a goal of securing 100 big donors.
Registration is still open for the United Way Corporate Challenge 5K Run and Fitness Walk, scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Museum Center at Union Terminal.
The event is open to two- and four-person teams representing the same company. Call the race hot line, 762-7133, or race director Steve Prescott at 336-9242 for more information.
Campaign allocations will be announced after the 1999 campaign is complete Oct. 28.
The 1999 goal is about $4 million more than the record $54 million raised last year.
The local United Way provides money for programs that reach one in three people and are operated by 170 social service agencies in seven counties Hamilton, Clermont, Brown and part of Butler counties in Ohio; and Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in Northern Kentucky.
