14 stitches can't stop Szczerbiak

The Associated Press

OMAHA, Neb. — Former Miami University star Wally Szczerbiak needed 14 stitches to close a cut under his right eye received in the first half of Milwaukee's 81-80 exhibition victory over Minnesota Wednesday night.

The Timberwolves' No. 1 draft choice still finished with 15 points despite missing most of the second quarter.

Szczerbiak became entangled with Bucks forward Tim Thomas while missing a baseline jumper early in the second quarter.

After returning to a loud cheer early in the third quarter, Szczerbiak missed his first two shots before going on a roll that gave the Timberwolves their first lead since the opening quarter. Szczerbiak hit four straight jumpers as Minnesota went on a 12-2 run that gave the Timberwolves a 65-64 lead.

Milwaukee won when Glenn Robinson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
