CINCINNATI SOCCER HIGHLIGHTS

Walnut Hills upsets No. 9 Sycamore

Walnut Hills pulled off the only upset in the Cincinnati Division I sectional soccer tournament, defeating No. 9-seeded Sycamore 4-3 in overtime at Sycamore.

There will be some interesting semifinal matchup Monday at neutral sites, mostly rematches of closely contested regular-season games.

Those games include Lakota West vs. Lakota West, Seton vs. McNicholas, Glen Este vs. Mason and Fairfield vs. Turpin.

        • Walnut Hills 4, Sycamore 3 (OT), Division I, Cincinnati I at Sycamore — Karen Heilman's goal five minutes into the second overtime, off a pass from Robin Burlew gave the Eagles the win.

        • St. Ursula 2, Oak Hills 0, Cincinnati III at St. Ursula — After it closed the regular season with a loss and a tie, St. Ursula coach Steve Dorr had some doubts about his team entering Wednesday's game.

Goals by Danielle Patton and Tracy Veith during the first 20 minutes, erased Dorr's concerns and gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 victory over Oak Hills.

“We took three days off after the season and then came back with three days of good practices,” Dorr said. “The loss to Mercy was our first and took some of the pressure off.”

The shutout was the Bulldogs' 14th.

        • Fairfield 2, Northwest 1, Division I, Cincinnati III at Fairfield — Alli Haeussler scored the winning goal early in the second half for the Indians.

        • Lakota West 1, Anderson 0, Division I, Cincinnati II at Lakota West — A goal by Laura Peters off a centering pass from Amber Wilson 14 minutes into the game was all the Firebirds needed.

        • Glen Este 2, Talawanda 0, Division I, Cincinnati I at Amelia — Freshman goalie Kristen Thomas recorded her seventh shutout, making nine saves to rescue the Trojans.

Junior Jennifer Cousino's shot from 35 yards out two minutes into the game gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead, and Amy Law scored off a centering pass from Rachel Brown with five minutes left to clinch the victory.

        • Mason 2, Mercy 1, Division I, Cincinnati I at Mason — Kimmy Larrick's centering pass enabled senior forward Tiffany Lawson to score the winning goal with six minutes remaining.

        • McNicholas 1, Ursuline 0, Division I, Cincinnati II, at Amelia — Heather Bogan scored nine minutes into the game.

        • Loveland 3, Western Brown 0, Division I, Cincinnati II, at Loveland — The Broncos' 16-game winning streak ended after the Tigers scored three times in the second half.

Cristin Gill's 15th goal of the season got the offense rolling. Jill Barre scored and added and assist, and Caitlin Holmes assisted on two goals.

        • Lakota East 9, Winton Woods 0, Division I, Cincinnati II at Hopewell Elementary — Ashley Garcia scored four times for the victorious Thunderhawks.

        • Seton 3, Milford 1, Division I, Cincinnati II at Oak Hills — Kristin Dressman scored two goals to help her team earn a return matchup against McNicholas in the sectional semifinals at Loveland.

        • McAuley 5, Mount Notre Dame 0, Division I, Cincinnati I at North College Hill — The Mohawks took a 2-0 lead on goals by Crystal Test and Lauren Giesting. Goalie Erin Bittner recorded the shutout.

        • Turpin 2, Amelia 0, Cincinnati III at Forest Hills Soccer Stadium — Emmy Cavender assisted on both Spartans goals. Goalie Jennie Ulrey recorded the shutout.

        • Waynesville 7, Greenview 0, Dayton Division II at Waynesville — Andrea Nelson and Jessica Hupe each scored twice. The shutout was goalie Blair Bingham's 11th of the season.
