Backers of Hamilton County ballot issues for mental retardation and Drake Center have raised more than $400,000 to sell their issues to voters.
A committee formed to promote Issue 13, a 3.53-mill, five-year levy for mental retardation services reported raising $194,119, much of it from local businesses and social service organizations.
Procter & Gamble gave the largest corporate contribution, $15,000. Other corporate contributions included $5,000 from Federated Department Stores, $3,000 from Union Cen tral Life Insurance, $10,000 from the Cincinnati Center for Developmental Disorders and $5,000 from Ohio Valley Resident Services.
The pro-Issue 13 campaign also received $30,000 from the Hamilton County Services for Retarded Children Fund.
The other ballot issue is Issue 12, a 1.59-mill levy that primarily benefits Drake Center, a non-profit, long-term rehabilitation center.
Citizens for Drake, the pro-Issue 12 campaign committee, has raised $215,000 $200,000 in the form of a loan from Provident Bank. Most of the money raised has been spent on television advertising.
