Miss America visiting Over-the-Rhine
Miss America Heather Renee French is expected to visit Over-the-Rhine Thursday to kick off Stand Down '99, an event that offers a range of services to homeless people.
Last year, the Stand Down event provided food, clothing, job counseling, housing referrals and other services to more 1,200 homeless people, including more than 150 veterans. This year's event, co-sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition and the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, will run Thursday and Friday at the Drop Inn Center.
Ms. French, a native of Maysville, Ky., has pledged to spend her year as Miss America promoting awareness of the needs of homeless veterans.
