St. Xavier can't gain ground in state football poll
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The St. Xavier football team probably is wondering what it takes to move up in the Associated Press Division I poll.
The Bombers' 50-33 victory over No. 5 Cleveland St.Ignatius wasn't enough to catapult the No. 2 Bombers over top-ranked Grove City, the frontrunner the past five weeks.
In fact, coach Steve Rasso's Bombers received the same number of first-place votes (seven) as the previous week.
There's still a chance that St.Xavier can win its first AP state title if Grove City falls to undefeated and No.6 Worthington Kilbourne Friday.
A Grove City victory probably will clinch the state poll championship for the Greyhounds.
Three Cincinnati teams remained in the Division II top 10. Edgewood is No.4, followed by Lebanon (6) and Kings (9).
Wyoming dropped to No.8 in the Division IV poll after losing to Indian Hill. Cincinnati Country Day held at No.4 in Division VI.
