Park district loses two barns to fire
CROSBY TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed two barns in Miami Whitewater Forest Thursday night.
The barns, at 11053 Oxford Road, were owned by the Hamilton County Park District and were rented to a family living on the property, once part of a historic Shaker community in the area.
Crosby Township Fire Chief Jim Miller said the residents were alerted to the fire by a passerby about 9:30 p.m. When fire crews arrived, both buildings were burning out of control. At least a half-dozen fire departments provided assistance, which included trucking water to the area which is not served by hydrants.
There were no injuries.
Chief Miller said the cause has not been determined. Officials are investigating the possibility the blaze could have been sparked by a controlled burn set nearby in the park to eradicate weeds.
No damage estimate was available late Thursday.
