Trio accused of bilking Rumpke

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Three men were indicted Friday for their alleged involvement in a scam that prosecutors said cost a local firm $300,000.

The men, Jeffrey A. Gardner, 26, of Mount Healthy; Mike Sloan, 30, of Loveland; and Dale C. Bost, 48, of Fairfield, were each charged with aggravated theft.

If convicted, each could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Mike Allen said Mr. Gardner and Mr. Sloan were employees of Rumpke Waste, Inc. They are accused of creating fictitious invoices and processing them for payment. Mr. Bost was a sales representative who did business with Rumpke.

The scam allegedly began in 1997 and lasted until early this year. Investigators became aware of this scheme after reviewing paperwork taken with a search warrant for another criminal investigation involving Mr. Gardner.

He is awaiting sentencing for drug trafficking.
