House OK's bill streamlining grants
BY PAUL BARTON
Enquirer Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON A bill authored by Rep. Rob Portman designed to make it easier for state and local governments and nonprofit groups to apply for federal grants cleared the House Tuesday.
It will allow nonprofits in Greater Cincinnati to have more resources available to help people, Mr. Portman, R-Terrace Park, said following House passage on a voice vote.
The bill, called the Federal Financial Assistance Management Act, is designed to reform the grant application process by streamlining the grant application process, as well as administrative and reporting requirements.
In addition, it establishes uniform federal grant applications for related programs and expands the use of electronic applications and reporting.
Mr. Portman's office expects the bill to pass the Senate within 10 days.
