Goodyear working on replacement blimp
AKRON, Ohio Work has begun on a new Goodyear blimp to replace the one severely damaged last week when it crashed into trees, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. said Tuesday.
The two crew members were injured slightly in Thursday night's crash near the Goodyear airdock at Wingfoot Lake, about 10 miles southeast of Akron.
The cause is under investigation.
The assembly of the new blimp has begun with materials that were already on hand at the airdock, spokesman Chris Aked said.
The new, 192-foot blimp should be flying by December and be certified for full operations by January, he said.
Man indicted in theft of deputy's gun, car
A Pleasant Ridge man was indicted Tuesday on charges of stealing a deputy sheriff's gun, driving off in his squad car and leading police on a wild chase.
Darrell Mann, 32, faces charges of assault, resisting arrest, failure to comply with a police order, receiving stolen property and two counts of aggravated robbery.
If convicted, he could be sentenced to more than 26 years in prison.
Prosecutors say the incident began late on Oct. 26 when Hamilton County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Illing, 28, stopped Mr. Mann's car for a traffic violation.
They say Mr. Mann, who was wanted on 10 outstanding warrants, got into a tussle with the deputy. They say Mr. Mann grabbed the deputy's gun and pointed it at him before driving off in his patrol car.
Police say Mr. Mann abandoned the car a short time later and fled on foot into a building on Faith Street. After a three-hour standoff, Mr. Mann surrendered to police.

Lt. Barnes said a suspect was taken into police custody, but that no charges had yet been filed.
The Montgomery County coroner's office identified the victim as Armanthua Beckwith, 39, of Dayton.

Board, teachers fight over dress code
LORAIN, Ohio A dress code for teachers has started a legal battle between the school board and a teacher's union.
The Lorain school board voted 5-0 to impose the policy Monday. The code simply states: All teachers shall dress in a professionally appropriate manner.
The Lorain Educational Association filed an unfair labor practice complaint with the state Employment Relations Board. Union President Kevin Zacovic said the school board can't approve the dress code without input from the union.
Mr. Zacovic also attacked the policy as too vague and said standards imposed in one school may be different from those in another school.
But school officials say the policy is reasonable and affects only about a dozen teachers.

Indiana Roman Catholic leaders expect hundreds, possibly thousands, of pilgrims to journey to Terre Haute and Munster this month to view the relics of a saint praised by one pope as the greatest of modern times.
Bones and other relics of St. Therese of Lisieux will be shown Thursday at a church and Carmelite monastery in Terre Haute and Nov. 18 at a Carmelite monastery and shrine in Munster.
The U.S.-Canadian leg of a world tour began last month.

The poster ban at New Prairie High School extends to all noncurricular student groups.
Members of the Fellowship of Christian Students, who inspired the ban, have responded by donning shirts that advertise their meetings.
