Boone Co. (5-5) at Lou. Fern Creek (7-3)

Today's N.Ky. playoff matchup

        • WHEN: 7:30 p.m. today

        • WHERE: Fern Creek High School, 9115 Fern Creek Rd., Louisville

        • WHAT TO WATCH: Louisville Fern Creek has been a feared power all season, losing only to top-5 stalwarts Henry Clay, Louisville Male and Trinity, while Boone County has gradually built a strong campaign.

The Litkenhous computer ratings list Boone sixth and Fern Creek 13th in AAAA, but those don't include out-of-state games; Boone lost early to Elder and La Salle.

“Our kids have continued to show improvement; that's something we've stressed all along,” Boone coach Rick Thompson said. “They're gaining confidence.”

Boone junior RB Timmy King has totaled 1,580 yards and 21 TDs. Considering he missed most of the first three games with an injury, his totals the past seven weeks are stunning: 1,486 yards and 20 TDs.

        • PICK: Louisville Fern Creek
