McNicholas (7-3) vs. Edgewood (10-0)

Today's playoff matchup

        • When: 7:30 p.m. today

        • Where: Edgewood High School, 5005 State Route 73, Trenton.

        • Tickets: $5.

        • Regular Season: This is the first meeting between these schools with no common opponents during the regular season.

        • Playoff History: This is Edgewood's third consecutive appearance in the playoffs. McNicholas will be making a fourth appearance and bring a 2-3 playoff record into the game.

        • Credentials: McNicholas is an unpredictable team, playing outstanding football one week and following with a loss to a lesser opponent the next. Edgewood hasn't missed a beat. The defeated powerful Springboro the third week of the season and went unchallenged in the MML South Division.

        • Key Players: Edgewood: Tailback David White (1,128 yards rushing), Ryan White (951) and Dan Beiser (856). McNicholas: Sophomore quarterback Bryan Cupito, who completed 136-of-148 passes for 1,887 yards and 23 touchdowns and receiver Joe Polaneczky (62 receptions for 850 yards).

        • Key Statistics: This will be a matchup of Edgewood's ball control offense that averages over 250 yards rushing against a McNicholas team capable of either running or throwing effectively.

        • If McNicholas wins: It would advance the Rockets to a second round game against the winner of the Dayton Carroll/Chillicothe game.

        • If Edgewood wins: The Cougars will pick up added confidence as the result of beating a team from the Greater Catholic League.
