Purcell Marian (7-3) vs. Bellbrook (10-0)

Today's playoff matchup

        • When: Tonight, 7:30 p.m.

        • Where: Bellbrook High School, 3737 Upper Bellbrook Road, Bellbrook.

        • Tickets: $5.

        • Regular Season: These team have never played in football and had no common opponents.

        • Playoff History: This is Purcell Marian's third with the Cavaliers claiming the Division II state championship in 1986 while Bellbrook hasn't won in two previous playoff appearances, the last in 1991.

        • Credentials: Competing in the tough Greater Catholic League North Division gives Purcell Marian the advantage over Bellbrook, the Greater Miami Valley Conference champion.

        • Key Players: Purcell Marian: Tailback Jeff Taylor lead the Cavaliers with 756 yards rushing on 176 carries. But the real key is the ability of quarterback Adam White to complete passes to Jamie Cooper, one of the best receivers in Ohio.

Bellbrook: Luke Clemens, an all-state tailback last year and the leading rusher in Dayton with 2,016 yards, is the biggest offensive threat while quarterback Ryan Addison also plays an integral part of the offense, throwing for more than 1,100 yards.

        • Key Statistics: Defense is what will determine the outcome with Bellbrook allowing only 145 yards a game while the Cavaliers have given up over 250 playing against a tougher schedule.

        • If Purcell Marian wins: the Cavalier will probably earn a rematch with GCL North rival Dayton Chaminade Julienne.

If Bellbrook wins: it will be the Golden Eagles first tournament victory.
