Bomb threat closes Mason schools today
All Mason City Schools will be closed today while police and school officials investigate a bomb threat that arrived by mail late Monday afternoon.
The threat, signed by a former student who now lives out of town, said a bomb would go off Wednesday. It was specific enough for Superintendent Dr. Kevin Bright to order an investigation of all six of the district's buildings.
Dr. Bright refused to give details about the threat or what school was named.
Police and school officials will canvass all of the district's buildings today, looking for explosives, Dr. Bright said. Based on their findings, they will decide whether to hold classes Wednesday.
Mason has more than 6,000 students.
