Pilarczyk recovering after angioplasty
Cincinnati Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk was well enough Tuesday after an angioplasty to review chest X-rays with his surgeon at Christ
Hospital, spokesman Dan Andriacco reported.
The archbishop, 65, was hospitalized Monday with chest pains and underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon. He was in good condition.
Mr. Andriacco said that in addition to clearing any blockage from previous operations, surgeons injected a solution to determine whether troublesome scar tissue can be minimized in blood vessels where they've worked.
However, as part of a “double blind” study, neither the surgeon nor the archbishop knew whether he had received the radioactive formula being studied or a neutral solution.
Mr. Andriacco said the archbishop still plans to attend the national bishops' meeting in Washington, D.C., this week.
