Water main break closes Third Street

        Third Street will be closed at Elm Street until 7 p.m. tonight so construction crews can fix a water main break. The pipe burst Thursday while utility work was being done on the Fort Washington Way reconstruction project.

        Eastbound Third Street traffic from Plum Street and from west Third Street will be detoured north on Central Avenue, east on Fifth Street, south on Race Street and then west on Third Street.

        Third Street is usually only open to eastbound traffic, but will carry westbound traffic until closed portions reopen.
