Orlando 7, Cyclones 3

10,999 wait around to see loss

BY JOHN P. WISE
Enquirer contributor

Flight delays caused the start of the Cincinnati Cyclones' IHL game against Orlando to be pushed back about an hour. The season-high crowd of 10,996 at Firstar Center probably would have preferred the game not to have been played at all.

Cincinnati dropped its second game in two nights to the Solar Bears, 7-3. Orlando scored three goals in the game's first 6:23, then turned a close game into a rout with three more third-period goals.

With the loss, Cincinnati (7-8-2) missed a chance to surpass third-place Orlando in the Eastern Conference standings.

Andreas Karlsson led the Orlando offense with three goals, including one that beat Cyclone goalie Mark Fitzpatrick off a third-period faceoff. Bob LaChance added a goal and three assists for Orlando (9-4-1).

The Cyclones made the game close with a pair of first period goals and another between intermissions. Shane Willis, Nikos Tselios and Len Esau all scored for the home team.

It was the first professional goal for Tselios, the rookie cousin of NHL star Chris Chelios.

As you'd imagine, three games in three days against the same team can produce some personal rivalries.

The post-game score sheet was littered with numerous fighting penal ties, and that didn't include the five-on-five brawl that precipitated the early ending to the game. Just for fun, the teams meet again here Tuesday.
