TRISTATE MARKET SPOTLIGHT

Chemed shares surge 8.5 percent

Shares of Chemed Corp. gained $2.121/2, or 8.5 percent, to close Thursday at $27.061/4.

Stock in the Cincinnati company has fallen since early November, when it announced a 53 cent-per-share quarterly dividend. Chemed also announced it was changing its high-yield dividend policy to allow it to retain more cash and enhance growth.

President Kevin McNamara speculated Thursday's surge — on a 13-week high volume of 154,900 shares — came as the dividend's ex-date passed Wednesday and growth investors jumped into the stock.
