Eastgate Bigg's recalled turkeys
A precautionary turkey recall on the eve of Thanksgiving from the Bigg's grocery store in Eastgate had staff members working into the wee hours to replace customers' turkeys in time for their Thanksgiving feasts.
The recall involved more than 200 Honeysuckle White brand fresh turkeys sold between Nov. 13 and Nov. 24. No other brands of fresh or frozen turkeys were involved, nor were any other local Bigg's stores.
A couple of customers complained on Wednesday that turkeys they had cut open didn't smell right. The store issued its recall after cutting open more turkeys at the store and detecting the smell, said store manager Bill Johnson.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, the store had collected about 225 turkeys. Late Thursday, there were no reports that anyone had eaten a recalled turkey or of anyone getting sick.
Customers who think they may still have a recalled turkey should contact the Eastgate Bigg's.
