Officer charged in bar scuffle

An off-duty Cincinnati police officer was arrested after a scuffle at an Over-the-Rhine bar.

Ryan Wesseling, 24, was charged with felonious assault early Thursday after allegedly bashing a man in the head with a beer bottle at Have A Nice Day Cafe, 1130 Main St.

Officer Wesseling, of Anderson Township, allegedly argued with Dan Worley, age and address unavailable, at 12:10 a.m.

Police said he then struck Mr. Worley, causing an inch-long cut to his head. Investigators declined to comment on what sparked the argument.

Police supervisors suspended Officer Wesseling, who likely will work desk duty until an internal investigation is complete, spokesman Lt. Ray Ruberg said.

Officer Wesseling was hired in January.

He works in District 5, which covers neighborhoods on the north and west sides of the city including Camp Washington, Clifton, College Hill, Mount Airy, Northside, University Heights and Winton Place.
