Inspectors to check retail scanning systems
A Weights and Measures Task Force will be created by the Hamilton County auditor's office this year to ensure consumers aren't getting ripped off during holiday shopping.
County Auditor Dusty Rhodes said inspectors from his office will be performing random sample tests of scanning systems at retail outlets throughout the county.
Special attention will be paid to sale items, he said.
Consumers noting discrepancies should bring them to store management. The auditor's office also will investigate complaints of scanner inaccuracy.
To make a complaint, call 946-4112.
Three Home Quarters stores in Greater Cincinnati are facing criminal charges because prosecutors say their electronic scanners repeatedly ring up the wrong prices.
