Walk to pay nursing home costs
BY WALT SCHAEFER
The Cincinnati Enquirer
NORWOOD Friends of Norwood native Mary Ann Stattler Falgner will use some shoe leather Sunday to help offset the uninsured costs of her nursing home care.
Mrs. Falgner, 51, of Milford, accounts payable manager for Zaring Homes, lapsed into a coma after suffering a brain aneurysm Sept. 16 while at lunch from work in Blue Ash.
Zaring Homes will provide T-shirts to all who walk on Sunday. Participants and nonparticipants are being asked to make donations to offset the costs of care.
She was out with some of the girls she works with and said she felt sick. They took her to Bethesda North Hospital where they said she had a (blood vessel in her) brain burst, said Vicki Falgner, Mary's sister.
Mrs. Falgner lapsed into a coma after doctors at University Hospital, where she was transferred after diagnosis, tried a procedure to address the condition. It failed, and the coma resulted, Vicki Falgner said.
Mrs. Falgner is being cared for at the Clermont Nursing and Convalescent Center in Miami Township, Clermont County. Her medical insurer is not required to pay for the nursing home care, Vicki Falgner said. She is ineligible for care at Drake Center in Hartwell because she is no longer a resident of Hamilton County.
Mrs. Falgner is a resident of Milford with her husband, David, and her two daughters, Sarah and Laura.
She is a graduate of the former Saint Matthew Catholic elementary school and Regina High school, both in Norwood.
