BY TOM O'NEILL
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A Hyde Park man is suing The Tonight Show over an eye injury he claims he suffered when T-shirts were shot into the audience during a 1998 taping.
Stewart Gregory, 56, said he suffered vitreous detachment when he was struck in the eye by a T-shirt fired with an air gun. The free T-shirts are often shot into the audience before taping as a warm-up.
Mr. Gregoryis seeking $25,000 for negligence.
It's not frivolous when you get hit with a hard object traveling 800 feet per second, he told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
When reached by the Enquirer Wednesday, Mr. Gregory declined further comment, citing the advice of his attorney. The suit was filed in Los Angeles.
Vitreous detachment occurs when the vitreous gel in the eye becomes separated from the retina.
NBC spokeswoman Carrie Simons would not comment.
