Two men rob IGA in Columbia Twp.

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP — Two men robbed the IGA Supermarket on Plainville Road early Wednesday and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, Hamilton County sheriff's officials said.

Store employee Donna O'Brien, 38, was struck in the right side of the face and another employee, Jason R. Wilson, 19, was sprayed in the face with a chemical during the holdup, police said. A customer, Carrie Sebastian, 62, suffered apparent symptoms of a heart attack when she entered the store during the robbery, said police. She was taken to Jewish Hospital in Kenwood, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Barnett. A hospital spokesman said the woman was in stable condition there Wednesday night.

Both bandits wore ski masks, police said. Deputies said they were looking for an older-model, dark blue Chrysler Fifth Avenue car last seen on Bramble Avenue heading toward Whetsel Avenue.

3 teen-agers arrested in attempted robbery
Cincinnati police arrested three boys Tuesday accused of attempting to rob two girls leaving an Evanston restaurant earlier that evening.

District 2 officers and the robbery task force arrested two 15-year-olds and a 13-year-old shortly after the three boys demanded money from two 17-year-old girls outside the Brick Yard at 2083 Madison Road, police said.

The girls screamed and the boys ran, officials said.

Police recovered two BB guns and a .380 semiautomatic from the suspects. One of the juveniles was charged with aggravated robbery; the other two face robbery charges.

Two die, three injured in two-car accident
Two people died and three children were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Adams County, Ohio, Wednesday afternoon.

The two vehicles collided head-on about 1:30 p.m. on Ohio 125 near the Adams County community of Lynx. Both drivers died at the scene, according to troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Killed were Roberta A. Allen, 46, of Winchester; and Donna R. Fannin, 46, of Portsmouth. Riding in the vehicle with Ms. Fannin were her three grandchildren, April White, 10; Matthew Spriggs, 8; and Lydia Clevenger, 3.

The three had been living with their grandmother since their mother was killed in a 1997 train crash.

The grandchildren were taken to Adams County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday, troopers said. April and Lydia were treated and released. Matthew was transferred to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, where he was in critical condition Wednesday night.

According to troopers, Ms. Allen was eastbound on Ohio 125 when her vehicle went left of center on a curve and struck Ms. Fannin's westbound vehicle head-on.

Ms. Fannin was wearing a seat belt. Ms. Allen was not, troopers said.

Cleves man accused of raping daughter, 11
A 42-year-old Cleves man was arrested Wednesday and charged with raping his 11-year-old daughter.

The man is charged with rape and gross sexual imposition. The alleged offense occurred in October in the man's home, the sheriff's office said.

The Enquirer is not naming the man in order to protect the identity of his daughter.

Former student to find out fate in gun case
LEBANON — A former Lebanon High School student charged last February with having a loaded gun in his car on school grounds will find out by year's end whether he will go to prison.

Andrew Szymanski, 19, of Turtlecreek Township faces up to a year in prison after pleading no contest in May to a charge of illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds.

The plea came within days of a judge's ruling that denied Mr. Szymanski's request to have the gun thrown out as evidence in the case.

Mr. Szymanski was arrested Feb. 17 after school officials and police said they found a .22-caliber rifle and an unloaded air pellet gun in the trunk of his car.

Mr. Szymanski, who has since been expelled, was at the school for a visit with a school psychologist. At the time he was suspended from school for allegedly writing a threatening note on an English test.

5 men are accused of helping rig contracts
LOUISVILLE — Five men have been indicted by a federal grand jury, alleging that they used fraud, bribery and extortion to rig defense contracts.

Three Louisville businessmen, Gary D. Burks, 53, David A. Klemenz, 41, and Larry L. May, 50, were indicted Tuesday on charges they allegedly paid kickbacks to win defense contracts and obtained inflated payments.

Charles J. Knoblach, 49, of Dayton, Ohio, is accused of allegedly taking kickbacks from the three men in return for help in securing contracts for the Louisville company, AM-AR International Ltd., an exporter of aircraft parts.
