Grand jury to get fatal boat-crash case

NEWPORT — Campbell District Court Judge Gregory Popovich bound 32-year-old Brian Brunen over to the grand jury Thursday on manslaughter and assault charges related to an Aug. 16 boat crash that took the lives of three people.

Mr. Brunen, of Hyde Park, faces three counts of second-degree manslaughter and one count of second-de gree assault, both felonies, as well as single counts of fourth-degree assault and operating a boat under the influence.

Scott Martini; his wife, Pamela; and a friend, Ken Middendorf, were killed when a boat slammed into the Martini boat near Watertown Marina on the Ohio River at Dayton. The Martinis were from Dearborn County, Ind.; Mr. Middendorf lived in Cleves.
