Man admitted on 911 to killing N.Ky. actress
The Associated Press
ORLANDO, Fla. An apartment maintenance man accused in the death of an aspiring actress from Northern Kentucky who lived in his building admitted the killing in a 911 call that was played before jurors in his murder trial Thursday.
Randy Montgomery, 21, threatened to kill himself during the 911 call. Crying uncontrollably, he said he kept having nightmares of the crime.
The nightmares had something to do with her death, he told the 911 dispatcher.
Mr. Montgomery is charged with the Dec. 30 slaying of Carlie Schulenberg, a 24-year-old actress from Alexandria, Ky. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
Ms. Schulenberg had been living in Orlando while working on a television series for pre-schoolers for Lightpoint Entertainment at the Disney MGM Studios.
She was stabbed 42 times and found last New Year's Eve wrapped in the bedclothes from her double bed. She was sexually assaulted.
Mr. Montgomery said he had been drinking on the evening of the killing when he blacked out. He told deputies he thinks he might have killed Ms. Schulenberg during that time.
In a taped statement, also played in court Thursday, Mr. Montgomery nervously explained to deputies that he did not remember killing Ms. Schulenberg but kept having recurring nightmares in which he saw her face slashed. In the nightmare, he cleaned up blood and remembered that her face was so sad.
Closing arguments were scheduled for today.
