Stuff 112, Richmond 90

Fowlkes' double-double lifts team to 4-0

Cincinnati remains the only undefeated team in the International Basketball League after defeating Richmond 112-90 Saturday at the Firstar Center. The Stuff moved to 4-0 with the win.

Tremaine Fowlkes once again led the Stuff, registering his third double-double of the season with 23 points and 16 rebounds in front of 2,868 fans Saturday.

“He's clearly established himself as one of the premier players in this league,” Stuff coach Joby Wright said of Fowlkes.

“This is what I want my role to be,” Fowlkes said. “But the important thing is that we're winning.”

Cincinnati was in control through the majority of the game Saturday. After the teams traded early baskets, the Stuff took the lead for good with four minutes left in the first quarter.

Cincinnati stretched the lead to as many as 15 and took a 56-43 halftime lead, but Richmond battled back in the third quarter, cutting the score to 70-66 with less than five min utes left in the period.

“They played a better third quarter,” Fowlkes said. “We had to come out stronger in the fourth.”

A.J. English and Kendrick Warren led the Rhythm on the comeback, scoring a combined 23 points in the third quarter. Warren ended the game with 23, and English scored 37 for Richmond.

“A.J. English is as good an offensive player as there is in the league,” Wright said. “He made everybody we put on him look invisible.”

The Stuff were able to regain control with a 12-3 run to close the quarter.

A balanced scoring attack was a boost for Cincinnati. Moo Moo Blakney scored 19, dished out eight assists and had three steals. Wayne Turner also had eight assists and scored 14. Soumaila Samake put up 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds, and Eric Taylor scored 13.

The Rhythm will get a chance for revenge at home today when they play host to Cincinnati.

EDWARDS RETURNS: Allen Edwards made his first appearance for the Stuff after sitting out for nearly six weeks after breaking his hand on the second day of practice.

“It was good to get back. I was getting kind of bored just coming and watching guys practice,” Edwards said. The former Kentucky Wildcat finished with eight points and three rebounds in 22 minutes.

FLINT INJURED: Damon Flint strained his hamstring in practice Thursday and did not suit up for Saturday's game. He expects to be ready to play today at Richmond.
