Munoz commits to Tennessee

BY DAVE SCHUTTE
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Michael Munoz, Moeller's three-time all-state offensive lineman, has verbally committed to play football at the University of Tennessee.

The son of Hall of Fame lineman Anthony Munoz, the 6-foot-7, 285-pounder was one of the most heavily recruited lineman in the country. Before making the decision, Munoz also visited Ohio State, Texas, Michigan and Florida State.

“Once I got down there, I felt comfortable and knew it would be a great place to spend the next four years,” Munoz said.

Munoz's sister, Michelle — a junior basketball standout at Mason — also has committed to Tennessee to play basketball.

“Michelle had no bearing on me committing, but it will be nice for us to attend college together,” Munoz said. “The hardest past was calling the other coaches and telling them about the decision.”

Besides earning Division I all-state honors, Munoz also was named first team in the Greater Catholic League three consecutive years and was co-offensive lineman of the year in the GCL this season.

Recently named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Ohio, Munoz is a candidate for the National Player of the Year honor to be announced later this month.

Munoz plans to sign a letter-of-intent in February, the next period when the NCAA allows high school athletes to commit.
