Olympic bid a year away
BY SCOTT MacGREGOR
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Cincinnati has a year to prepare for the 2012 Olympics.
Today is one year from the deadline for the city's bid to be the U.S. candidate to play host to the Summer Olympics. Cincinnati 2012, the organization putting the proposal together, says the bid is about halfway complete.
Cincinnati is one of eight places vying for the U.S bid.
Cincinnati 2012 will announce today that:
Seventy-one percent of the funding (about $3.2 million of an interim goal of $4.5 million) has been raised from private sources to complete the bid. About $2.5 million on top of the interim goal a total of $7 million will be needed by late 2002, when the United States Olympic Committee will select its candidate. No public money has been solicited.
It has created a Web site, www.cincinnati2012.com, to be launched today.
