Norwood man accused of making bomb threat
COVINGTON A Norwood resident was charged with terroristic threatening and marijuana possession Sunday after police said he told them he had a bomb and two hostages in his room at the Clarion Hotel here.
Covington Capt. Steve Wills identified the suspect as Rodney Dale Bryant, 39, of 4324 Lafayette Ave.
Police would not elaborate on the incident, and it was unclear whether there were any explosives or hostages.
Capt. Wills said Mr. Bryant called Covington Police dispatchers at 2 a.m. to say he was upset over personal problems and had explosives and hostages in his room.
Police said Mr. Bryant made a similar call to a local radio station.
Covington's SWAT team reached the Clarion, in the 600 block of West Fifth Street, at 4:15 a.m. and the hotel was evacuated.
At 6:20 a.m., the SWAT team entered Mr. Bryant's room and arrested him without further incident.
Police took Mr. Bryant to St. Elizabeth Hospital South, Edgewood, for psychiatric evaluation.
His wife, reached at home, would not comment.
Arrest made after Santa robs Marathon
ANDERSON TOWNSHIP An Anderson Township man was charged Saturday in the hold-up at a Marathon gas station in which the robber was described as wearing a Santa Claus hat, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department said Sunday.
Frederick Sullender, 33, of the 6900 block of Golden Gate Drive, was apprehended 21 minutes after the 6:20 p.m. robbery of the station at 8345 Clough Pike, police said.
The robber was described as a man wearing a Santa hat and driving a white pickup with a for sale sign. A vehicle fitting that description was stopped on Ohio 125.
A Santa hat was confiscated from the vehicle, deputies said. Robbery is a third-degree felony. Mr. Sullender also was charged with drug abuse, a fourth-degree felony.
Man, 30, arrested on robbery warrant A Westwood man who refused to leave a night club following a fight early Sunday was arrested for disorderly conduct and found to have an outstanding warrant for aggravated robbery, Cincinnati police reported.
Masai Torbert, of the 2300 block of Brokaw Street, turned 30 on Saturday.
At 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Mr. Torbert was involved in a fight at Roxy's Night Club on Main Street in Over-the-Rhine, police said.
No details about the robbery were available.
Man is cut during Sunday assault
A Sycamore Township man was charged with felonious assault Sun day following an argument in which another man was cut in the back with a knife, Cincinnati District 3 police said.
Vincent Doan, 26, of the 7500 block of School Road was arrested at 1 a.m. near his home. He allegedly was involved in an altercationat 11:30 p.m. Saturday during which the other man was cut, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department said. Neither the injured man nor anyone else involved in the altercation required transportation to a hospital, police said.
Man hurt in I-275 crash now improving
The condition of a Clermont County man at University Hospital was upgraded Sunday to fair, two days after he lost control of his car and flipped it on an Interstate 275 median.
William Martin, 35, of Union Township had been listed in critical condition at University Hospital, where he was admitted following a Friday afternoon crash near the Kellogg Avenue exit on I-275, police said.
Autopsy ordered in death of Ind. child
AURORA, Ind. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death of a small child who died Sunday morning at Dearborn County Hospital after being found unresponsive at a Second Street residence.
An officer responded to the Second Street home about 9:26 a.m. and found a girl, about 18 months old, with no pulse or respiration, police said.
The name of the child had not been released by police late Sunday.
An autopsy will be performed at the Hamilton County Morgue in Cincinnati.

Sen. C.J. Prentiss, D-Cleveland, has proposed legislation that includes racism, genocide and religious persecution in Ohio's public schools' teaching of citizenship education.
Rep. Peter Lawson Jones, D-Shaker Heights, has introduced legislation forbidding demonstrators to wear masks.
DNA evidence brings new trial in rape case The Associated Press
CLEVELAND A man who has spent 20 years in jail for three rapes he says he did not commit has been given a second trial.
DNA evidence not available in Frederick Luckett's original trial casts serious doubt on his 1979 conviction by a jury, Judge Burt Griffin of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court ruled Friday. He scheduled a new trial for Jan. 18.
