25-year-old charged with murder

COVINGTON — A 25-year-old Covington man was arrested Tuesday night and charged with murder in the death of Fort Wright resident James Berte, whose body was discovered in Devou Park on Oct. 27.
Thomas Roy Smith of Linden Street was in custody late Tuesday in the Kenton County Jail, police said.
Police previously said they thought Mr. Berte's body had lain in the park for four days before it was discovered following an anonymous call. Police said they think the victim, who worked for Oriental Cleaning at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, had been in his car with another person in the park prior to his death. Mr. Berte's maroon Buick Riviera was found in the park several days before his body was discovered.
Police have not said how Mr. Berte, 65, was killed or what a motive might be suspected.
