Clinton fights cyber-terrorism
        Stepping up vigilance against cyber-terrorism, President Clinton plans to announce an initiative today to protect federal computers from infiltrators — including spending $2 billion to make the government's computer systems less vulnerable to attack.

New-home sales fall, as prices climb 5.3%
        U.S. new-home sales fell more than expected in November as mounting interest rates slowed purchases in every region and prices reached their highest ever, Commerce Department figures showed Thursday.

        Exploding demand for electronic commerce services has prompted the newly formed HRS Business-to-Business Inc. to accelerate its own 2-month-old growth plans.

TRISTATE BUSINESS SUMMARY
        Shares of Dayton, Ohio-based Rex Stores Corp. fell 49 percent Thursday after the retailer said same-store sales rose just 1 percent in November and December because of lower prices and sales for older products.

        The Air Force has exercised an $8.2 million contract option for portable heat pumps supplied by Keco Industries, a Florence-based defense supplier.

        Leora Hargett has been named vice president/human resources for consulting and business development at Target Solutions Inc.

TRISTATE MARKET SPOTLIGHT
        Shares of Procter & Gamble Co. gained $4.75, or 4.6 percent, to close Thursday at $107.88.
