New bride will be Boone Co. PVA

Goff to marry Sunday, start work Monday

BY PATRICK CROWLEY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

BURLINGTON — Paula Goff was appointed Friday by Gov. Paul Patton to fill a vacancy as Boone County property value administrator. She takes over the office Monday. Sunday night, she will get married.

“This is all very exciting,” Ms. Goff, 41, said Friday evening. “I'm just really humbled and honored to be selected by the governor for this job, and I'll do the very best job I can. I'm looking forward to getting started.”

Ms. Goff's appointment runs through the Novemberelection, when a special election will be held to fill the remaining two years of former PVA David Turner's term.

Mr. Turner was sentenced in October to five years' probation, a year in jail and restitution for theft. He admitted taking $45,000 in office funds to feed a gambling habit.

The PVA is charged with setting property values in the county for the purpose of taxation. John Peters, a Kentucky Revenue Cabinet employee from Greenup County, has been running the county PVA office.

Ms. Goff said she plans to run for the office in November.

The Boone County Republican Party had also submitted a list of names for Mr. Patton to consider for the appointment. County GOP Chairman Ed Moore could not be reached Friday night to comment on Ms. Goff's appointment.

Boone County Democratic Party Chairwoman Kristi Nelson called Ms. Goff's selection “an excellent choice.”

“She is very well-qualified and has the temperament needed to run that office,” Ms. Nelson said.

A former field representative for U.S. Rep. Ken Lucas, D-Richwood, and a 20-year veteran of political campaigns and public service, Ms. Goff holds a master's degree in public administration from Northern Kentucky University and has experience in finance, budgeting and accounting.

“She's a very good person and very capable,” said Edgewood attorney Mark Guilfoyle, an adviser to Mr. Lucas. “She'll do a fine job in that office.”

She also runs a music ministry in which she performs and preaches. She met her future husband, Philip Christy of Bracken County, during a revival at Augusta Baptist Church.
