Hot Summer Nights forms 'Chorus Line'

BY JACKIE DEMALINE
The Cincinnati Enquirer

A Chorus Line will dance onto the Corbett Theater stage of the College-Conservatory of Music on July 6, opening the 2000 edition of Hot Summer Nights at University of Cincinnati.

Also joining the lineup will be the regional premiere of All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten (opening July 7) and Oliver (opening July 8). The three shows will play in repertory through Aug. 20.

A Chorus Line won eight Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway in 1976 and became Broadway's longest-running musical. The show, about a Broadway dancers' audition, was the top choice in a Hot Summer Nights audience survey last season.

Kindergarten, based on the best-selling books of Robert Fulghum, is a revue that looks at the profound in everyday life. Oliver, the musical retelling of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, has been a musical stage staple since it debuted in 1963.

It is a family-friendly season, says producer Terrell Finney. “It's the territory we've staked out, the traditional, large-scale musical. It's the kind of thing our audience is interested in seeing us present.”

Subscriptions are $56.25. Renewal deadline is May 5. New subscriptions will be filed starting May 6. Single tickets go on sale June 26. For information or to receive a subscription brochure, call the CCM box office at 556-4183.

Public auditions for A Chorus Line will be held Jan. 29 to cast about six extra dancers. Auditions will be held in February to cast some 10 boys (ages 8-14) for Oliver, including the title role. Call 556-5803 for information..
