COVINGTON — Police were still looking Friday for an accused sex offender who fled from Cincinnati officers and wrecked his car in Covington on Thursday.

Leon Stamper, 41, is wanted in Cincinnati for robbery and felonious sexual penetration. The car he wrecked at the end of the chase Thursday, an older Pontiac, was believed to be involved in the assault Wednesday of an elderly College Hill woman, Cincinnati police said.

Mr. Stamper was spotted Thursday afternoon in Price Hill and chased into Covington. There, he got off Inter state 75 at 12th Street, hit at least three vehicles and ran from the scene. He left his girlfriend and two small children in the car.

Officers and deputies searched with a police dog for hours around Linden Grove Cemetery.

Covington police, believing Mr. Stamper to be gone from that city, called off their search.

“By now, he could be anywhere,” said Lt. Col. Bill Dorsey.

But many other officers in the area are familiar with Mr. Stamper and his connections in the Tristate and will be keeping an eye out for him, they said.

He is about 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds with brown hair, hazel eyes and a cut on his head from the accidents. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
