Treasurer for Kings to help Mason
BY SUE KIESEWETTER
The Cincinnati Enquirer
MASON For the next six weeks Michael Mowery will serve as treasurer for two Warren County school districts.
Monday, Mr. Mowery, Kings treasurer the past 10 years, was tapped to serve as interim treasurer for neighboring Mason schools, effective immediately through Feb. 29.
He will earn $40 per hour and replaces Cary Furniss, who resigned to accept the treasurer's position in Upper Arlington schools, near Columbus.
A permanent treasurer will probably be hired at the Jan. 25 board of education meeting, said Marianne Culbertson, president of the Mason Board of Education. She declined to name the individual under consideration.
We're very pleased to have Mike. We felt confident in choosing Mike on Cary's recommendation, Mrs. Culbertson said after the Mason board voted to hire Mr. Mowery.
Mike met with Cary before he left and updated him on projects. The people in the treasurer's office here will handle the day-by-day things beautifully.
Mr. Mowery said he will work for Mason in the evenings and weekends when needed, but he did not apply for the Mason job.
Last week, Mr. Mowery received a new four-year contract from the Kings board, which he plans on fulfilling.
It's an honor to help Mason to help facilitate their search, but I am very happy at Kings, Mr. Mowery said.
Mason's hiring of Mr. Mowery on a temporary basis was the second hiring of a Warren County treasurer in two days.
Sunday, the Lebanon Board of Education hired Mary Beth Kemmer as its treasurer. For the past two years she has worked as treasurer of the Springfield-Clark County Joint Vocational School District.
I think we're very happy and looking forward to working together with Mrs. Kemmer as a team, said Lebanon board member Katie Poitinger. She's an excellent addition to our staff.
Mrs. Kemmer will serve as interim treasurer, working part-time, until Feb. 16, the first day of her two-year contract with Lebanon schools. She will earn $71,000 annually.
