Health board OKs license for landfill
Operation limited to building debris

WHITEWATER TWP. The Hamilton County Board of Health on Tuesdayapproved an operating license for a local company to build a landfill on Ohio 128.
Miamiview Land Development, located in Hamilton County, will be able to use the landfill only for construction and demolition debris, such as drywall or shingles.
The license was approved at a special meeting Tuesday at the health district in Sharonville.
Residents and township trustees had opposed the landfill.
The community doesn't want another landfill, Trustee Hubert Brown said. First, we have enough landfills in Whitewater Township.
Second, we'd like to turn the property into something more desirable for Whitewater Township, such as light development along Ohio 128, Mr. Brown said.
A pending lawsuit by former property owner Harold Hopping against Miamiview said the property being used for the landfill was sold under the condition that it not be used for a commercial trash operation.
On Monday, Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge David Davis declined to grant a temporary restraining order stopping Miamiview from building the landfill and preventing the health district from issuing the license on Ohio 128 between Miamitown and Cleves.
Hamilton County Health Commissioner Tim Ingram said the courts told the health district the lawsuit is a private matter, and thus, should not be used as a condition to approve or deny the license to Miamiview.
Mr. Ingram said the health board would not have approved the license if in fact we felt that this site ... would cause damage to the health of the citizens in the area.
The new landfill will sit on a 24-acre site, of which just over 2 acres will be used for the active disposal area.
