Man held on $500K bond in shooting

Suspect accused of multiple felonies

LEBANON — A South Lebanon man remains in the Warren County Jail on $500,000 bond for allegedly shooting a neighbor last week outside their High Street apartment building.

Charles Hinkle, 39, was arraigned Tuesday in Warren County Court on attempted murder, burglary, vandalism, domestic violence and felony theft charges. Judge Dallas Powers set the high bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Thursday.

That hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence to support the charges, all felonies, and whether the case should be bound over to the Warren County grand jury.

Mr. Hinkle, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, was arraigned via video. A public defender was appointed for him.

Police say Mr. Hinkle was arguing with his girlfriend when Mark Wilson, 42, tried to break it up.

Mr. Hinkle, armed with a shotgun, was arguing with the woman when Mr. Wilson approached and told him to put the gun down.

Mr. Hinkle allegedly turned and shot Mr. Wilson, who was standing about 30 feet away. Mr. Wilson was struck in the chest by a shotgun pellet and was treated at Bethesda North Hospital and released.

The shooting happened Jan. 20 shortly after 10 p.m.

Mr. Hinkle and Mr. Wilson live in the same apartment building, and police say Mr. Hinkle stole the shotgun from Mr. Wilson's apartment before the shooting.

The gun belongs to Mr. Wilson.
