Boy, 17, charged with murder

Allegedly shot teen in Kennedy Heights

BY TOM O'NEILL
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Cincinnati police charged a 17-year-old boy with aggravated murder Sunday in the shooting death of another youth in Kennedy Heights.

Homicide investigators would not release the suspect's name because of his age, saying only that he was arrested in Kennedy Heights at 7:15 a.m. Sunday.

Victim Christopher P. Parks of the 1300 block of John Street in Cincinnati's West End was shot at 10:55 a.m. Saturday while walking on a sidewalk in the 6400 block of Kennedy Avenue.

Christopher, 17, died at University Hospital. He is the fourth homicide victim in Cincinnati this year.

“He was a nice young man, that's all I can tell you,” said one woman, a neighbor of Christopher in the Ezzard Charles housing complex. The woman declined to identify herself.

Sunday, police sought a second suspect, a black male, 15-17 years old, about 5-feet-2-inches and about 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark bubble coat that might have a tan collar, a black or blue skull cap and black shoes.

The youth arrested Sunday was charged as a juvenile. Whether he is taken before a grand jury and charged as an adult will be up to the Hamilton County prosecutor.

A juvenile court conviction could mean freedom at age 21; a conviction in common pleas court could carry the death penalty.

Anyone with information is asked to call homicide at 352-3542 or CrimeStoppers at 352-3040. Callers may remain anonymous and receive a reward for information.
