Wanted: helpers for civic causes

4 Montgomery groups have slots

BY WALT SCHAEFER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

MONTGOMERY — Four of the community's volunteer citizen advisory committees need new members as they begin programs and plans for the new year.

Vacancies exist on the Arts Commission, Beautification and Tree Commission, the Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Sister Cities Commission, said Joyce Yock, the city's volunteer coordinator.

“If getting involved in the community was among your New Year's resolutions, there is plenty of opportunity and we need your help,” Ms. Yock said.

        • The Arts Commission organizes the city's annual photography contest, an antiques appraisal program, summer concerts and other events. It meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.

        • The Beautification and Tree Commission focuses on the city's Arbor Day celebration at the elementary schools, a plant swap program, and the community beautification projects and annual awards. It meets at 9 a.m. on the first Monday of each month.

        • The Parks and Recreation Commission makes recommendations for programs and playground equipment, and monitors park conditions. It meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.

        • The Sister Cities Commission concentrates on exchange programs with Montgomery's sister city — Neuilly-Plaisance, France. The commission also organizes the annual Bastille Day Celebration in July, the International Reception and Trolley Trot programs. Meetings are at various times on the third Tuesday of each month.

All commission meetings are at City Hall, 10101 Montgomery Road. For information, or to obtain a volunteer profile form, call Ms. Yock, 792-8329.
