Tear gas flushes man out after standoff

HAMILTON A Hamilton man is facing a string of charges after police say he threatened them, then held them at bay for more than an hour early Sunday before being flushed out with tear gas.
There were no injuries.
Jay B. Begley, 30, barricaded himself alone in his house in the 900 block of Dayton Street, then called the police communication center and told police he had guns and a bomb, said Hamilton Police Officer Dave Crawford.
That's why our Special Weapons and Tactics team was dispatched and responded to the scene, Officer Crawford said.
SWAT team members use more powerful weapons than patrol officers and are trained for high-risk situations.
The SWAT team shot four rounds of tear gas into the home, Officer Crawford said.
At that time, SWAT entry officers went into the back door and apprehended him without any incident, he said.
No guns or bombs were found in the house. The area around the home was blocked during the standoff, but there were no evacuations.
