Miss America to wed Lt. Governor
The Associated Press
MAYSVILLE, Ky. Miss America, Heather French, and Kentucky Lt. Gov. Steve Henry will marry in October, soon after her reign ends, her father said.
The couple will marry at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville. He is 46 and has never been married, and she is 25.
It is something that has just flourished here within the last year, said Ron French, Ms. French's father. ... You can tell when people are in love, you can see it in their eyes.
Gov. Paul Patton said he wished the couple the best.
Last fall, Ms. French limited her participation in a campaign bus tour by Messrs. Patton and Henry after pageant officials raised concerns about a public role in their re-election campaign.
The couple had already said she had changed her voter registration from Republican to Democrat, Mr. Henry's party.
Mr. Henry, an orthopedic surgeon, plans to run for governor in 2003.
