Hamilton Co. park district to hold jobs fair
BY LEW MOORES

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP Hamilton County Park District will be looking to hire 250 to 300 seasonal employees this year and hopes to attract applicants at its annual jobs fair Saturday.
The fair will take place at three county parks, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at each location: Winton Centre auditorium at Winton Woods in Springfield Township, Miami Whitewater Forest visitor center in Crosby Township and the Chart Room at Lake Isabella in Symmes Township.
It's part of our annual push to get seasonals hired to get ready for our boathouses and golf courses opening up, said Joy Landry, communications specialist for the park district.
Golf courses begin opening March 1, and the boathouses at Lake Isabella and Miami Whitewater Forest open on March 4. Snack bars should begin opening by the end of March.
The park district faces the same challenge as other employers a robust economy has made hiring more competitive.
It's been challenging the past few seasons, Ms. Landry said. And the park dis trict has grown quite a bit. We've created more positions that need to be filled.
Among them, park officials said, have been the renovated Winton Woods harbor area, which reopened two years ago, and the new Sharon Centre opening at Sharon Woods. Where the park district employed about 900 at the peak of its season a couple of years ago, it now employs about 1,000.
Representatives from the park district's departments will be at all three locations, accepting applications and in some cases conducting on-site interviews.
Among the departments represented will be boating and fishing, golf, operations (which includes grounds maintenance), food service and safety.
Bill Mowery, boathouse and campground manager, said he will be looking at about 30 positions to fill this season, including boathouse cashiers, dock attendants, campground attendants and playground attendants.
Everybody who works in my department works directly with the public, Mr. Mowery said. So we're looking for folks who have good people skills, not necessarily with a lot of experience.
