The Cincinnati Enquirer
KANSAS CITY A franchise-record three short-handed goals and a power play score helped propel the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Blades at Kemper Arena Friday night.
The win snapped a three-game road losing streak for the Cyclones and gave the club its second victory (2-11-1) at Kemper Arena all-time.
After trailing 1-0, the Cincinnati assault started in the middle frame, as the Cyclones exploded for a season-high four goals in the stanza and tied the game at 4-4. Cincinnati picked up short-handed goals from Ian MacNeil (two) and Greg Koehler, taking a 3-2 lead, before the teams alternated three goals in a 67-second stretch late in the period to tie it 4-4.
MacNeil became the fourth player on the Cyclones roster to score 10 or more goals this season, with four of the scores coming on shorthanded tallies. The four shorthanded goals ties a franchise record for man-disadvantage goals in a season. The three short-handed goals were the most in an IHL game since Grand Rapids netted a trio Oct. 17, 1998.
Shane Willis netted his second goal of the night and 26th of the season, tying him for the IHL lead, early in the third period to give Cincinnati a 5-4 edge. The score was the Cyclones first power play goal in eight games, ending an 0-for-41 streak with the man advantage.
The score also moved Willis into a tie with Kansas City's Dave Chyzowski for the league goal scoring lead.
Cincinnati goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier picked up his second victory of the season, re-directing 35 shots. Pelletier held KC scorless the final 25:50 of the contest.
